Wi-Charge Wireless Power Now Available For Schlage Smart Locks

At a recent catch-up with some technology journalists, the conversation happened to arrive on innovations that we’re still waiting for, and someone mentioned being able to charge their devices completely wirelessly. When I told them that this is already possible and that the technology is now available, they seemed surprised.

It’s timely news that Wi-Charge, the long-range wireless power company, has announced a retrofit kit for Schlage Encode and Schlage Encode Plus deadbolt smart locks, enabling owners to power their locks over the air, permanently, without having to charge or replace batteries.

The Schlage Encode wireless power retrofit kit consists of a wireless power transmitter that plugs into the mains, which beams power to a receiver using infrared “AirCord” technology to a module that drops into the Schlage locks, where its AA batteries would normally go. The module contains rechargeable batteries, with the charge constantly maintained by the AirCord transmitter.
